Welcoming you back with our 100th edition and a video I came across Monday morning from Dwyane “The Rock” Johnson.

I recommend you watch the whole video, but here’s the TL;DW (too long, didn’t watch):

After pushing himself to complete a workout he didn’t want to complete, he relayed a piece of wisdom he’d heard from a friend a few years back: “Try changing I have to → I GET TO.”

The fact that we get to do things - go to the gym, care for our loved ones, even go to work - is a privilege. We are lucky to get to do these things, even in those moments when we’d rather just relax. Changing one word can change your entire mindset.

It’s such a great framework and something we should remind ourselves of during times of lethargy or frustration…especially as we head into a new year.

So: instead of succumbing to frustration and telling yourself, “I don’t want to do it,” or “Ugh, I have to do it,” be thankful that you GET to do it and #justdoit.

Short and Sweet: Here is something to consider once the calendar flips tomorrow:

  • LESS spending

  • MORE saving / investing

This is not intended to be a how to when it comes to investing and saving. It’s simply a reminder that the best time to start is NOW. Invest and save when you’re young so you can reap the benefits when you’re older.

Q&A Time:

How does an investing mindset change your relationship with money? 

  • An investing mindset reframes money as a tool for growth rather than just a means of consumption. Instead of thinking, “How can I spend this paycheck?” you start thinking, “How can I make this paycheck work for me?”

Why does it feel like I’m broke, even when I’m making good money?

  • Because if you’re spending every dollar you earn, it’s like running on a treadmill— you’re putting in the effort, but you’re not moving forward. This happens when your focus is on what you can buy right now instead of what your money can do for you long-term.

How do I get out of the “treat yourself” trap without feeling like I’m missing out?

  • The key is balance. You don’t have to ditch fun entirely—just be intentional. For example, treat yourself to experiences instead of things, and set aside a percentage of your income to invest or save first. That way, you’re still enjoying life now, but future you is also taken care of.

  • Life is expensive, but here’s the facts: small, consistent actions add up. You don’t need to save half your paycheck to start making progress. Try automating your savings or investing $50 a month—these baby steps build momentum and building this habit is the hardest part. It’s not about the amount, it’s about the action of doing it.

Keep the ISM in the back of your mind this year. Sure, you’re going to have your moments where you spend more (summer vacation, someone’s birthday, etc), and that’s okay. But remember: if you’re always spending, you’re stuck in a cycle that keeps you working for money instead of letting your money work for you…
