What the heck is an ETF?!?

Short & Sweet: An ETF, or Exchange Traded Fund, is a collection of stocks that you can invest in. They typically track indexes, but you can also find them based in areas of interest, such as AI, energy, etc.

Why It Matters: Because they’re safer than individual stocks yet more flexible and transparent than mutual funds. Just another type of security that you can invest in as you prepare to build long-term wealth.

Conversation Starters 🗣️

Self-Interest: Talk (half-jokingly) about wanting to apply to these companies, because they let you work remotely and offer student loan assistance.

Human Interest: Talk about how Van Leeuwen used $60K to build a $300K-a-day ice cream business.

Artificial Interest: Talk about some of the many AI gems in this ARK Invest report, such as the prediction that “AI’s economic impact could reach $200 TRILLION by 2030.”

Major Moves 🗞️

 📦️ 👀 AMAZON:

Midjourney

Everyone’s favorite online marketplace is finally testing box-less deliveries after 15 years of kicking the idea around.

“Doing so will likely help curb operating costs, and the move will also help the environment.” And if it doesn’t help, Jeff Bezos has promised he’ll just buy us a brand new environment.

 💦 matter:

Midjourney

We’re not exactly sure what microplastics are, but apparently they’re everywhere, and they’re bad for us.

Enter Matter, “a startup attempting to [slow the release of new microplastics] using a new type of reusable filter that catches them before they can reach the sea and disintegrate.” They just raised $10 million, which is the opposite of a micro move.

💰️ SONY:

Midjourney

Sony and Zee (an Indian entertainment company) started a merger process back in 2021. They are closer than ever to making their dream a reality.

India’s “National Company Law Tribunal approved the mega-merger between Sony Group’s south Asian unit and Zee entertainment” on August 10th. The post-merger company is being described as a $10 billion media and entertainment behemoth.

💦 wint:

Midjourney

Short and sweet: Wint, a water intelligence company, “uses AI to detect and stop leaks” for their customers, which include Google and Microsoft.

They just raised $35 million in Series C funding.
