Plus: Food For Thought re: Wants vs. Needs
Good morning and welcome back.
You’re going to see some unexpected sections this week: one that’s making it’s much-anticipated debut, and two that you’ve seen on occasion but have been waiting in the wings (no Fly pun intended) for a comeback.
We like to change up the rotation every so often - it’s more fun for us, and it keeps the content fresh - but we care more about what you like.
So, tell us: is it cool if we switch it up once in a while, or do you prefer more of a set-in-stone layout?

Here are this week’s highlights:

Why the heck should I start a side-hustle?
Short & Sweet: What’s a five letter word that rhymes with Funny?
MONEY!
Why It Matters: $$$ aside, it’s also a great way to be in control of your work and pursue something you’re passionate about.
💡 Here are some more reasons you should start a side-hustle.
Networking Opportunities: A side-hustle can create networking opportunities with individuals in different industries, potentially leading to new partnerships or career advancements.
Professional Fulfillment: Building a successful side-hustle can lead to a sense of professional fulfillment and accomplishment, boosting self-confidence and motivation.
Skill Development: Starting a side-hustle can help individuals develop new skills, from time management to marketing, that can be valuable in both personal and professional life.

Working with AI 🦾
👀 🦾 ChatGPT Vision
ChatGPT’s new Vision feature launched this past week.
A BIG update on ChatGPT…providing another great way to use the tool more in your life and at work.
This update is epic, and we’re excited to share what it has to offer with you (courtesy of Superhuman, our favorite AI newsletter).
Here’s the update:
If you have a ChatGPT Pro account ($20 a month), you will have access to GPT-4 / ChatGPT Plus, which is seen below.
Having the Pro account will give you access to ChatGPT Vision.
What does it mean for you? 🤔
Vision lets you upload pictures and do all sorts of cool and fun things like generate recipes or even get instructions on how to fix things.
But let’s take it a step further and get more creative, shall we?
Here are 3 new ways you can use the ChatGPT Vision feature:
1) Virtual Teacher: Simplify confusing topics or images
Got a document you just can’t understand?
Not sure how to fix that refrigerator of yours?
Excel formula isn't working the way you want it to?
It’s pretty simple.
Upload a photo or screenshot to ChatGPT and ask for explanations and instructions.
If you’re not sure how to use the feature, click the image icon at the bottom left of your screen in the prompt field when you are prompting the tool.
2) Design Assistant: Combine forces with Dall-E 3 to produce new images
Upload a screenshot and combine it with Dall-E 3 to create all kinds of visual assets like:
Ads
Illustrations
Product photos
And more
3) Understand complex signs, symbols, and foreign languages
No further explanation needed. Just know that with ChatGPT4, you are now infini-lingual (a word we just made up — can GPT4 decipher it? Put this advice to work and find out!)
The Search Bar 📊
As of 10/16 at 10:00am ET
Midjourney
MOST SEARCHED BUSINESS (past 24h): PFIZER - All about how they didn’t make as much money as expected, stock took a tumble, and now they need to cut costs.
MOST SEARCHED INVESTMENT (past 24h): BITCOIN ETF - A Bitcoin ETF is coming (news suggests the SEC will approve it), and it looks like other crypto ETFs are not far behind.
MOST DOWNLOADED APP (past week): LAPSE - The app is a disposable camera — you take pics but can’t see them until they “develop” later in the day. Makes for some fun candids!
Major Moves 🗞️
📱 APPLE:
The story’s about Google, but Apple’s the collateral damage.
Midjourney
So the main story: the government has taken Google to court over it being the dominant search engine on Apple products. The reason it’s dominant is because they pay big $$$. Therefore, if Google loses this case, Apple will lose “$18 to $20 billion in annual payments…accounting for 14-16 percent of Apple’s annual operating profits.”
A ruling is expected in 2024. If you own Apple (or Google) stock, act accordingly.
👋 recs:
WTF is a social wallet???
Midjourney
An app that wants to get you off your phone? Sounds counterintuitive, but that’s what Recs is trying to do. Recs is a social wallet that wants to “empower us to connect beyond its virtual confines…with the stated goal of getting people ‘off the phone and hanging out with each other’ at hot spots like favorite restaurants and music venues.”
OTF supports this message. Despite the fact that we live in our phone, we love this idea. You can learn more about and/or download it here.
📽️ NETFLIX:
While everyone zigs, Netflix zags?
Midjourney
Once upon a time, there was a brick-and-mortar store called Blockbuster, where you could go to rent movies. Then Netflix came along and destroyed them, changing the world in the process. Now everyone streams, so what does Netflix do? “The streaming giant has, strangely, decided to open a number of brick-and-mortar retail locations called Netflix House.”
They will offer dining, curated live experiences (Squid Game obstacle course!), and merchandise from favorite Netflix shows.
🎵 duolingo:
Music lessons launching soon!
Midjourney
Back in September, we shared a story about Duolingo branching out beyond spoken language. Now, it looks like that announcement is finally ready to launch: “Duolingo announced on Wednesday that users [of its new music course] will be taught rhythm, note names, music reading, and ear training.”
There’s still time to become a star! Just go into your Duolingo app, tap “Get Notified” for your music class alert, and rock out!
