05/30 |#019| How Unused Credit Cards Actually Hurt You

Plus: Our expert advice shares a double-feature! 🗣️ Check out these 3 ways to persuade. 49% of people still use a debit card to pay for their purchase 💳

Tuesday Edition: May 30th, 2023

Good morning! It can be tough getting back to it after a long weekend, but we’re here to make it easier. June is around the corner and summer is on it’s way. We can’t believe the first five months of 2023 are basically behind us. #WeGuessTimeFliesWhenYoureOnTheFly 😏

Here’s the top rundown for today:

  • 🤑 How unused credit cards can actually hurt you.

  • 🚀 $30M to fund a space robot workforce?

  • 🗣️ Our expert advice shares a double-feature!

The Big & The Small 🗞️

📱 T-MOBILE:

The wireless carrier believes their problem-solving problems are solved! “AI…can help T-Mobile learn more about why people are leaving and help identify problems before they result in a customer deciding to go elsewhere.” Don’t need a genius bot to figure this one out: if a customer switches, it’s either about price or iffy service.

🤔 verde technologies:

A University of Vermont-based startup is looking to shake up the solar industry. “Verde Technologies is working on the technology that involves applying solar cells to…thin film. That film can then be applied to pretty much anything from rooftops to aircrafts.” Smaller, less obnoxious, and (allegedly) more efficient than solar panels.

💻️ NVIDIA:

The metaverse may be dead, but the Omniverse (?!) is alive and well. “Nvidia announced…that electronics manufacturers worldwide are using its Omniverse simulation and collaboration platform to improve their factories.” It’s actually really cool what they’re doing - click above for more!

🤖 gitai:

You had us at the headline: “Japan startup raises $30 million to build space robot workforce.” But if that’s not enough for you: “[CEO Sho Nakanose] envisions space robots that can handle routine work on the moon or Mars at a fraction of the cost…” Robot astronaut laborer is cool and all, but how about an affordable robot chef? Or house-cleaner? Or literally anything else?

A-Pick-Me-Up:

Finance 101 🤑

How the heck can an Unused Credit Card hurt you?

Short & Sweet: There are three ways. 1) Your credit score may drop. (Remember, we talked about a credit score in a previous edition.) 2) Your credit limit could be slashed. 3) You could be a fraud victim without knowing it.

Quick Stories (courtesy of ChatGPT):

Why It Matters: Because if you haven’t been using your card the past couple of months, your credit score may drop, your total credit limit could be slashed and since you are not using it and may not be checking your statements, you could be victim to fraud. It might be time to check-up on those cards 👀

📊 Finance 101 Chart:

Here’s a fun little survey from Forbes Advisor on how consumers typically pay for purchases.

32% use a physical credit card while 4% use a virtual credit card. A physical debit cart is still the leading horse at 49% usage.

3 Ways to Persuade: A long time ago, this dude Aristotle said there were three ways to be persuasive, and while most old stuff becomes obsolete, this will remain true forever.

Here are the three ways:

Ethos: Persuasion through your credibility / character / experience.
Example: You’re able to sell a step-by-step guide to side-hustling because it’s the formula you followed to make millions.

Pathos: Persuasion by tapping into someone’s emotions.
Example: Guilt-tripping someone into doing what you want them to do.

Logos: Persuasion by tapping into someone’s logic or reason.
Example: Using hard data to prove your side of a debate.

Understanding and utilizing all three will make you much more persuasive!

Twitter-tainment 🤯

There is so much out there on how to use ChatGPT, but it all boils down to one crucial thing: prompting the tool. If your prompts aren’t on point, it can only help so much.

Hello there, Stanley!

Founder’s Note 💭

👋 Dan popping in to say what’s up…so what’s up!?

I want to be transparent as we continue to build this newsletter. I want to be upfront and honest about the journey: it’s tough. It really is.

However, we’ve been doing this for ~4 months, and we have not skipped a beat. We’ve issued an edition every Tuesday since launching on 01/24/23. #Consistency

We have a total of 779 people who have subscribed (major thanks to all of you). #Community

We’ve begun to build a small foundation online. 6 Twitter followers!! (Big figure, I know), 450+ Instagram followers, and 60+ TikTok followers. #Progress

Why am I telling you this? Because if you’re doing something on the side, or just jumping into your own thing, we all start somewhere. And if that somewhere is small, that’s okay.

What has helped me most is the following realization: Just start and figure it out as you go.

As we’ve been told, success doesn’t happen overnight. So keep pushing, as we sure will!
