Working With Against AI 🤖

My Data is MINE

According to a recent article from The Washington Post, LinkedIn is using everything you contribute to the platform to train its AI.

Some people may be perfectly fine with this - after all, if the AI reaches its full potential, it will (theoretically) be great at matching people with their ideal jobs. That could be great for you!

But the issue is a simple and timeless one: don’t you deserve some sort of compensation if you’re being used for this training? Is it fair that you may receive NOTHING for enhancing a product that will generate revenue?

We’re not here to get into the ethics, however; we’re simply here to show you how to OPT OUT - if you want to - of LinkedIn using your data for AI.

Quick Step-by-Step:

  1. Log into your LinkedIn account

  2. Click on your headshot to open the settings.

  3. Select “Data Privacy.”

  4. Turn OFF the option under “Data for generative AI improvement.”

Whatever you decide, it’s important to know that you actually have the choice. Data protection has been a big issue for a long time, and it’s nice to know that you can do something about it on LinkedIn with the click of a button.

But what about your data everywhere else? Luckily, you can solve most, if not all, of those problems by Working WITH AI. Here are some tools courtesy of ChatGPT if you want to put the clamps on your data:

  1. AI-Powered VPNs:

    • NordVPN and ExpressVPN use AI to detect and block malware, phishing sites, and ensure optimal server selection for anonymity.

    • ProtonVPN employs AI-enhanced encryption for robust data protection.

  2. AI-Based Antivirus Software:

    • Bitdefender and Norton 360 use AI to detect emerging threats, like malware and zero-day exploits, in real time.

    • Kaspersky leverages AI to guard against ransomware and phishing attacks.

  3. AI Identity Theft Protection:

    • Identity Guard (with IBM Watson) and Aura use AI to monitor the dark web and alert users to suspicious activity.

  4. AI-Enhanced Password Managers:

    • Dashlane and LastPass generate strong passwords, monitor for weak/reused ones, and track dark web leaks.

    • 1Password uses AI to identify security threats and suggest improvements.

  5. AI for Phishing Detection:

    • Google's Safe Browsing AI and Cofense detect phishing sites and emails, alerting users about suspicious activity.

  6. AI-Driven Firewalls:

    • Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet, and Cisco use AI to monitor traffic, detect anomalies, and block unauthorized access.

  7. AI for Data Encryption:

    • ZScaler and CipherCloud use AI to automatically encrypt sensitive data, securing it during storage and transmission.

🔐 FAKES:

Progress never stops, even when we’re “progressing” in the wrong direction. And while I’m certain fakes will continue to get “better,” it’s really hard to see how it can surpass where we’re at.

Images and videos are old news, but podcasts - two voices having a conversation - at the click of a button?!? Google’s NotebookLM can “take an article, blog post, or web page and…produce an audio file of a conversation between two people that sounds so natural and realistic there’s no way you’d believe” they weren’t real. Which really sucks for podcasters and content creators…

…but what really sucks for EVERYONE is the proliferation of fake job ads. Now we can’t even try to make money the old-fashioned way without the fear of being scammed? “Over 245,000 people [got] scammed last year…a 25% increase from 2022 to 2023.”

I don’t think progress is the right word anymore. It’s not regression because the tech is advancing, but it can’t be progression if it comes with so much negative, can it?

And while there are a lot of AI-content detectors out there, it’s not enough . So it’s hard not to feel like the damage is done. Until this sort of detection software is deeply embedded into every platform we visit, there’s no way to know for sure.

Prompts to Develop a Business Plan with ChatGPT

A business plan is crucial to being a successful entrepreneur. After all, “70% of businesses that survive beyond 5 years follow a strategic plan.” But putting one together can be a difficult and arduous task, so here’s ChatGPT to the rescue once again - you just have to know how to prompt it.

 TL;DR Takeaways:

  1. DEFINING PURPOSE - “What are the critical questions I need to answer to define my mission, vision, and values? Guide me through articulating these clearly for my business plan.” You should know your purpose, but ChatGPT can help you articulate it in a clear and detailed manner.

  2. MARKET IDENTIFICATION - “Assist me in detailing my business’s target market and customer segments by asking questions about my ideal customer profile.” ChatGPT interviewing you, essentially.

  3. SWOT ANALYSIS - “Guide me through identifying my business’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats by asking probing questions about each area.” And if you don’t know the answers, ChatGPT can give you answers based on the information you provide about your business idea.

  4. MARKETING STRATEGY - “Using the information you have about my business, the service, and the audience, create a detailed marketing strategy that covers customer acquisition, engagement, and retention.”

And the list goes on: beyond these main four, ChatGPT can help you:

  • Strategize Your Sales

  • Describe Your Offering

  • Project Your Finances

  • Plan Your Operations

  • Mitigate Your Risks,

  • and More

As you’ll notice, the only way ChatGPT helps is if you have the information in your head. It’s not handing you a business on a silver platter; it’s simply facilitating the development of a plan by asking you the right questions and then putting your ideas into the right words.

It will save you time and energy for sure, but it can’t replace a good business mind or an enthusiastic entrepreneurial spirit. You need to bring those yourself.
