Plus: Is it Possible to Hustle TOO Hard?

Welcome back!

Been watching the Olympics as much as I can, and one prevailing thought is that there’s a lot of us humans can learn from these incredible athletes.

If you really think about it, a lot of parallels exist between sports and business - to be great in either, you must be:

  • Flexible / Adaptable🤸‍♀️

  • Strong in the Face of Challenges 🏋️‍♂️

  • Quick to Solve Problems🏃

  • A Team Player ⛹️‍♂️

…unless you’re a solopreneur or a singles tennis player. Then you can scratch that last one.

Let’s make like Michael Phelps and dive right in:

Making Cents 🏅

Why You Should Cut Down On Amazon
For The Rest of the Summer

Short and Sweet: Two weeks ago, we talked about Prime Day in this section and why you should take advantage of it. But now that it’s over and with summer winding down, we’re recommending an Amazon detox.

Why It Matters: Because this month-long hiatus from one-click online shopping can help sharpen your spending habits and save you money. Reducing your reliance on Amazon can lead to more thoughtful consumption patterns and more money in your pocket.

Breaking It Down: Benefits of an Amazon Detox

  • 🥇 Support Your Neighbors: Buying locally instead of on Amazon helps keep them open - you would be supporting small businesses and fostering local job creation, inevitably resulting in a better community (which helps you in both the short and long-term).

  • 🥈Keep That Budget In Check: It’s wayyyyy too easy to overspend on Amazon. This break is yet another opportunity to think about your spending habits and prioritizing needs vs. wants.

  • 🥉 Going Green: Less shipping means less packaging and a smaller carbon footprint.

Before you go cold turkey, here’s a little meme to remember them by:

Who is Alex Hormozi?

  • An OTF favorite, he’s the founder and managing partner of Acquisition.com, which has ownership stakes in various companies that combined bring in over $200M per year.

O.T.F.
O.F.T - One Final Thought

Both bits of advice above are very Olympics-appropriate. Because to get to the Olympics (which for most of us is an unfathomable accomplishment), these athletes must develop, challenge, and push themselves to their limits, and they must take action every single day.

We may never run, jump, and perform like them, but we can try to emulate their work ethic and determination to become great in whatever we choose to do.

Major Moves 🏊️

NBA: Quite the $ummer for the A$$ociation

The National Basketball Association recently signed a new 11-year TV deal worth $76 billion! “Disney (ABC and ESPN), Comcast (NBATV and Peacock), and Amazon will be airing all of the NBA’s nationally-televised games from the 2025-26 season through the 2035-36 season.”

Two biggest takeaways:

  1. If you’re a fan that tries to watch every national game, they just got more spread out and harder to find.

  2. If you thought player salaries were already crazy, just wait 🤯

lumi: AI + manga + Colin Kaepernick = the weirdest dream ever?

No, pinching yourself won’t help. It’s real. “A new AI platform led by former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick aims to make it easier for anyone to publish - and monetize - their original stories as comics and manga.”

The beta was launched almost a week ago and allows “anyone with so much as an idea [to] develop full-fledged stories.”

APPLE: Will stores unionize?

Apple has reached a tentative collective bargaining contract with the first unionized company store in the country.” The contract, if approved, will increase pay 10% and offer various other benefits. It needs 85 store employees to vote YES to pass.
